Summary: | Nutrition is one of the important factor for ameloblast and enamel on
tooth development. Chicken bone powder containing various proteins and
minerals that can be used as alternative nutrition suplement, has good
bioavailibility. The aim of this research was to examined the effects of chicken
bone powder supplementation during pregnancy and lactation on ameloblast and
enamel of Sprague dawleys rat pups.
Nine female pregnant rats were devided into 2 group: treatment and
control group (comparator and negative control subgroup). Chicken bone powder
was administered to female rats starting from day 0 of pregnancy period to day 5
of lactation period. A suspension of 13,75% chicken bone powder was given by
intragastric administration once a day. Obimin AF® (1,5%) or CMC-Na 2,5% was
used as comparator or negative control subgroup, respectivelly. The suspension
of each group was given 2 ml once a day. On day 5 afterbirth, four pups of each
mother were sacrificed and the mandibula was removed, processed, and
embedded in paraffin. Five μm of tissues were cut and stained with Haematoxylineosin,
continued by histomorphometric analysis of ameloblast number and enamel
thickness. The picture of ameloblast and enamel were taken under light
microscope by the magnification of 100 or 1000x, consecutively. The pictures
were further analysed using computer software image analysis KLONK.
Statistical analysis was done by using ANOVA.
The number of ameloblast and enamel thickness of pups from mother
treated with chicken bone powder were significantly better than negative or
comparator control subgroup (p0,05). This results indicated that the
supplementation of chicken bone powder during pregnancy and lactation period
might improve the number of ameloblast and enamel thickness during tooth
development.
