description Background: Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) is one of the favorite drinks in society, especially in adolescents. The number of SSBs frequency in Indonesia is unknown. However, it can be known from SSBs advertisings in television. Over-consumption of SSBs can cause overweight and obesity, which is one of global health problems. Yogyakarta is the province which has the highest number of overweight and obesity in adolescents aged 16-18 years old. Therefore, the objective of this study is to examine the association between SSBs consumption and overweight and obesity in adolescents. Objective: To examine the association between sugar-sweetened beverages consumption and overweight and obesity in high school adolescents. Method: This is an observational study with cross-sectional method. Sampling was using proportionate stratified random sampling. The subjects are 10th, 11th, 12th grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1. Data was analyzed by using chi-square and Mann-whitney test. Result: The average of SSBs consumption within subjects is 687,5ml/day, the average of calorie intake from SSBs is 270,5 kkal/day, the average of SSBs calorie intake contribution to the total calorie intake is 15,4%. P value 0,44 (p>0,05) for the association between SSBs consumption and overweight and obesity. P value 0,206 (p>0,05) for the association between calorie intake from SSBs and overweight and obesity. P value 0,394 (p>0,05) for the association between SSBs calorie intake contribution to the total calorie intake and overweight and obesity.
