Summary: | Toxocariasis is caused by Toxocara vitulorum with clinical signs are
diarrhea and enteritis. Toxocariasis in calves may interfere with the growth of
calves so the weight gain is not maximized, the condition is detrimental to
breeders. This research was conducted to find out the prevalence of Toxocara
vitulorum in calves in klaten, and indentify risk factors for the incidence of
toxocariasis.
The sample is about 178 sample of feses which was gathered in Klaten.
The sampling technique used in this research was multi stage sampling, simple
random sampling, and cluster sampling at the breeder level. The sample
identification was done by floating method. Risk factors obtained by interviews
based on a questionnaire. Data analysis was done by descriptive statistics, analysis
of risk factors to do with the association test (2), and the strength of association
calculated odds ratio (OR).
The result showed that the prevalence toxocariasis in calves in Klaten was
about 11,8% (21/178). It showed that the level of toxocariasis infection was at the
low level. Calf characteristics, cage and providence management and also food
management were done well so the infection could be avoided.
