Summary:Background : Allergies are abnormal immune responses of the body. The highest prevalence of allergy is in infants and children as much as 6-8%. The incidence of allergies in children is increasing every decade. In Indonesia, the incidence of allergies in children is at 5-11% with the prevalence in Yogyakarta is at 3.7-6.4%. Allergies can lead to serious health complications and affect a person's quality of life. Adverse effects of allergies can interfere with child development. Risk factors that cause the allergy is genetic history, presence of microbes, duration of breastfeeding, early introduction of solid foods, foods containing allergens restrictions on pregnant women and infants, the content of pre and probiotics in food, supplements, vitamins, organic food, and lifestyle (smoking, exposure to environmental toxins or pollutants, and drugs). Objective : This study aims to determine the relationdhip between maternal behavior and history of breast feeding practice against allergy in children. Method : This study is an observational with cross-sectional design. The sample population in this study were all children aged 2-5 years in playgroup and kindergarten in Yogyakarta. Data collection was conducted in February-June 2013. The number of respondents in this study are 92 people. Parents were asked with the questionnaire of respondents' characteristics, mothers� allergies, children�s allergies, breastfeeding and complementary feeding, and maternal behavior. Results : Significant value of relationship between maternal genetic history with allergy in children is 0,001. Significant value of relationship between food selection behavior with allergies in children is 0.043. Significant value of relationship between complementary feeding practice with allergy in children is 0.984. Significance value of relationship between breastfeeding patterns allergy in children is 0.555. Conclusion : There is no relationship between complementary feeding practice and breastfeeding patterns with the incidence of allergies in children. There is a relationship between genetic and food selection behavior with the incidence of allergies in children.
