| description | Halophilic bacteria are group of bacteria that live and growth in high salt concentration
environment. It could be found in sea water, pond, and mud at which the salt
concenration is high. Among members of halophilic bacteria, some of them could
produce extracellular protease. Protease useful enzyme for various industries such as
tannery, food, and detergent industries. On our previous study, we obtained four
halophilic bacteria which were able to produce protease, i.e. BKL-1, BKL-4, BKL-5
and LC-2. The protease produced by those isolates has been biochemically
characterized. The objective of this research was to characterize and identify those
isolated halophilic bacteria.
Characterization was examined based on salinity tolerance and temperature tolerance.
From the observation we concluded those isolates were moderate halophilic and
mesophilic bacteria. Identification was carried out based on the morphological
observation, biochemical test, and 16S rRNA sequences analysis. The results concluded
that BKL-1 and LC-2 were determined to be Staphylococcus arlettae, BKL-4 was
Halomonas smyrnensis, and BKL-5 was Halomonas sp. |
