Description
Summary:Gall rust disease caused by Uromycladium tepperianum often infect sengon plants in nursery. Disease management of gall rust using chemical fungicide has negative effect to the environment. Agricultural and plantation sector starts to develop natural fungicide from papaya leaves exctract. Papaya leaves extract can control rust disease in coffee plant. The aims of this study were to understand the most effective time and concentration of papaya leaves extract to inhibit the sporulation, penetration and infection of U. tepperianum. Papaya leaves were extracted in 70% ethanol using maceration method. The extract diluted in aquades. This research used Completly Randomized Design (CRD) factorial. The treatments were application time (directly and indirectly after inoculation of U. tepperianum) and concentration ( 0 g/l, 9 g/l, 45 g/l, and 90 g/l) of papaya leaves extract. Percentage of sporulation, percentage of penetration, and percentage of infection were observed to determine the effectiveness of papaya leaves extract. The results showed that the application of papaya leaves extract is effective only applied directly when there are fungal inoculum U. tepperianum. Effectiveness of papaya leaf extract with a concentration of 45 g/l and 90 g/l effectively could inhibit teliospores sporulation (53.2% -91.6%) and infections mycelia (100% ). While papaya extract concentrations 9 g/l, 45 g/l and 90 g/l effectively inhibited the penetration basidiospora on plant cells (60% -100%).
