Summary: | Corn Husk contains cellulose that can be utilized in modified cellulose for food
industry, as carboxymethylcellulose. The objectives of this research were : 1) to get
method of synthesizing carboxymethylcellulose at aqueous NaOH concentration and
amounts of sodium monochloroacetate to obtain carboxymethylcellulose of corn husk
that fulfill degree of substitution requirement for food industry, 2) to get data about
characterization of the obtained CMC, namely purity, pH, and viscosity of
carboxymethylcellulose, and also group of CMC (substitution group) that fulfill DS
requirement for food Industry.
The research was conducted with extracting cellulose. The obtained cellulose was
characterized cellulose content and moisture content. The next stage was to synthesize
carboxymethylcellulose. It was started with alkalization at NaOH aqueous concentration
7,929%
