Summary:Thermoplastic nylon used as denture base material shows unwanted elasticity modulus alteration after half year wear. Elasticity modulus alteration on thermoplastic nylon influences on elasticity which is noted as one of thermoplastic nylon advantage. This study was aimed to determine the effect of alcohol concentration and immersing duration on elasticity modulus of thermoplastic nylon as denture base material. Eighty thermoplastic nylon plates in 2.4 x 10 x 6.4 mm dimension were used in this study. Sample was divided into 8 groups of ten to each. All samples were immersed in sterile distilled water for 48 hrs at 37oC then in alcoholcontaining mouthwash solution. Thermoplastic nylon plates group 1 and 4 were immersed in 7% alcohol-containing mouthwash solution, group 2 and 5 in 17% alcohol-containing mouthwash solution, and group 3 and 6 in 27% alcoholcontaining mouthwash solution for 30 min once a day. In group 7 and 8, thermoplastic nylon plates were immersed in 37oC sterile distilled water as control. Elasticity modulus was measured after 7 and 14 days immersion using Universal Testing Machine. Data obtained were analyzed using two ways anova and Least Significant Difference (LSD) methods. This study results showed: 1) elasticity modulus of thermoplastic nylon as denture base material among alcohol concentration were significantly different (p<0.05)
