| description | Background. Traffic accident is one of community health problem that affects all sectors of life. Traffic accident is the most common cause of injury in whole of the world. In Indonesia, Majority (70,0%) of the victims are productive age motorcyclist (15-55 years) with low income per month. Head injury was become first ranked on the sequence of injury that experienced by traffic accident victims. Head injury associated with motorcyclist fidelity to used of head protective equipment called helmet. The effectiveness of helmet to reduce head injury been proved through clinical study. Methods. This study was descriptive observational that conducted in Forensic medicine installation RSUP Dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta. Data retrieval conducted on January 2013 from victims traffic accident medical record(1 January until 31 December 2012). Result. The proportion of helmet use on motorcyclist of traffic accident victims died in the period January 1 through December 31 2012 is 13 case or 28,9% victims was used helmet meanwhile 10 case or 22,2% victims was not used helmet. Twenty two cases without explanation with the total number of cases as many as 45 cases. The most common head injury of victims are skull fracture. Conclusion. On the rider traffic accident victims died in hospital Sardjito obtained unprotected riders helmet while driving had a greater proportion than those protected by the helmet with the skull fracture become the most head injury and cause of death on traffic accident die victims. |
