Summary: | The base of denture is part of dentures replacing the missing alveolar
bone. The usage of denture in long period decreases handiness of fitting surface
toward mucosa tissue caused the change of the networks form and reabsorption
of alveolar bone structure. Relining is one of procedures in the implementation of
coating the loose fitting surface with new basic substance. There are some relining
materials, such as heat cured, self cured and soft liner. The purpose of the research
is to insvestigate the impact of relining substance toward the retention of full
denture- acrylic resin.
The research used 30 specimens of full denture base acrylic resin,
which the surface of denture base had been reduced and roughed as well as given
layer derived from relining heat cured, self cured and soft liner materials. Hence,
the subject of research had been divided into 3 groups: the first group was by
relining heat cured, the second was by relining self cured, and the third was by
relining soft liner. Later on, the strength test was conducted to denture retention
by using a vertical attractedVan Kampen modified tool and the weight was
recorded causing the releasing of full denture from its place. The data obtained
was analyzed by one way Anova and continued with post hoc test with LSD.
Finally, the research finding showed that there were several rates of
retention and the deviation standart (Newton), comprising of the heat cured was
80.07 ± 1.85, the self cured was 64.39 ± 1.23 and the soft liner was 41.21 ± 2.32
(p < 0.05). The conclusion of present work is that there was retention difference of
base full denture on upper jaw over acrylic resin given the substance of relining
heat cured, self cured and soft liner. In addition, the relining head cured material
is more retentive than the material of self-cured and soft liner.
