Summary:Objective : Cognitive and memory enhancing of ethyl acetate extract from Tinospora crispa (L.) stem were evaluated. Mathods : Ethyl acetate extract from Tinospora crispa (L.) stem was orally administered to amnesic mice induced by ethanol. Cognitive and memory profile were performed by passive avoidance test. To elucidate the effect of ethyl acetate extract from Tinospora crispa (L.) stem in the hippocampus, cell density of hippocampal CA1 pyramidal layer was evaluated. Results : Oral administration of ethyl acetate extract from Tinospora crispa (L.) stem (400 mg/kg body weight) significantly increased cognitive and memory function in passive avoidance test as much as 62,88% of the level found in normal control mice. Cell density of hippocampal pyramidal layes was 9302 cells/mm2. Corellation analysis by pearson product moment corellation showed 0,512 positive corellation coefficient. Conclusion : Ethyl acetate extract from Tinospora crispa (L.) stem has potency to be developed as cognitive and memory enhancer.
