Summary: | It has been known that Surakarta town usually called as a �short fuse� town because of it has history of radicalism movement, violent action, intimidation action to one�s faith and terrorism activity, so that the condition is interesting to pay attention, to examine and to research.
The research uses descriptive method with interfaith leaders as informants. Data is collected by using direct observation, in-depth interview and literature study. Purposes of the research are to know factors causing radicalism movement, to formulate role model of interfaith figure and to understand implication of interfaith leader�s role in supporting survival of Surakarta region.
Results of the research explained that factors causing radicalism movement in Surakarta town were the presence of global political constellation, ideology factors including rigid interpretation on religious texts, exclusivism attitude, religious fanaticism and emotion, economic factors consisting of poverty, ignorance and injustice forms, permissive factor and psychological factor. Based on causal factors above, so a role model of interfaith leader is needed in order to prevent the radicalism movement. The efforts of the role model can be holding event of leaders meeting, formal public discussion, informal discussion, conducting training and mentoring in conflict-susceptible regions, establishing interfaith communication and a public ideology strengthening program consisting of activities of strengthening the base of inclusive-pluralistic theology, conducting a nationalistic proselytizing program, holding an interfaith road show, and developing a harmony among followers of different religions. Results achieved from role of the interfaith leaders were the establishment of interfaith communication network, the development of partnership pattern with territorial stakeholder and providing skill and knowledge to communities, especially in conflict-susceptible region in order to establish the territorial resilience of dynamic and conducive Surakarta town.
The research concluded that dominant factors causing radicalism movements were ideology factor and permissive attitude so that a public space is necessary as a manifestation of interfaith communication network in attempts of creating peaceful and tranquility condition for people of Surakarta.
