| description | Background:Obesity is a global health problem which can
be a risk factor of many diseases, one of them is
hypertension. Women, in this case, have a greater risk
than men because of women's body composition that has
more fat. The assessment of obesity can be done by
calculating the body fat percentage. A simple way to
calculate the body fat percentage is by utilizing
anthropometric parameters.
Objective:The research is aimed to study of body fat
percentage and blood pressure in women of 40-65 years
old.
Methods:Design of the research is croos sectional with
total female subjects 131 people who live in Sleman
Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY). All subjects were
examined with anthropometric (weight, height,
suprailiac skinfold, and waist circumference) and blood
pressure(systolic and diastolic) measurements. The
results of anthropometric measurements were used to
calculate the body fat percentage based on Lean�s et al
formula. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney
test, unpaired t, and Spearman.
Result:The average difference of systolic and diastolic
blood pressure on the age group 40-49 years old (122.6
± 18.6 and 80.2 ± 11.6) is compared with age group 50-
65 years old (129.0 ± 20.6 and 83, 1 ± 9.3) was
statistically significant (p <0.05), whereas the body
fat percentage in the age group 40-49 years old (23.5 ±
6.5) is compared with age group 50-65 years old (22.7 ±
6.7) showed no significant results (p> 0,05).
Conclusions:Age has effect on the value of blood
pressure. Increasing of agewill be followed by
enhancement of systolic and diastolic blood pressure. |
