Summary: | Background: The biggest smoking behavior is begins in
adolescence and increased become regular smokers over the
past few years. Smoking could continue to be habit for
the emergence of perception which is smoking is a
pleasant behavior and there is a desire to repeat it
(conditioning), and gradually turned into a dependency
without realizing about that. Dependence or obsessive
activity is described as a pleasure that can affect or
giving pshychological in individual�s terms. While the
psychological satisfaction is the biggest factor to
affect smoking behavior in adolescence.
Objective: This study aimed to knowing the habit of
smoking in adolescents in terms of surrounding
environment aspects and their knowledge about the effects
of smoking for their health.
Methods: This research is a descriptive study with crosssectional
design, which is a type of research that
emphasizes the time of measurement and observation data
variables only once at a time.The method used is
descriptive method to determine the smoking habit in
Yogyakarta.
Results: Boys more dominate with ever consumed a
ciggarete as many 1-9 ciggarete a day where the most of
initial source of information is obtained from permitted
friendship for boys and from parents for girls. Peer
group is an important factor in smoking activity, besides
the lack of parental supervision also being a trigger
which can develop into habit. Coupled with initial
knowledge about smoking from an earlier age who seen from
their parents or close family. Smoking activity have done
in out of school area. The majority of their reasons to
smoke, because a negative feeling, the anger. Their
knowledge about the effect caused by smoking is good, in
fact it affect them to stop smoking.
Conclusion: most respondents had consumed cigarette and
still classified in light smokers.
