Summary: | Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic
disease with characteristic hyperglycemia that occurs
due to abnormal insulin secretion, insulin action or
both. Currently, the incidence of diabetes is
increasing around the world. This increasing will be
followed by the increasing likelihood of chronic
complications of DM. One of the complications is
diabetic retinopathy (RD). Diabetic retinopathy is the
most common cause of blindness found in adulthood.
Objective : To determine the prevalence and description
of RD in patients with type 2 diabetes hospitalizations
in Dr. Sardjito Jogjakarta 2011-2012.
Methods : The study was descriptive design using
secondary data from the medical records department of
Dr. Sardjito 2011-2012.
Results : The number of people with type 2 diabetes
hospitalizations in Dr. Sardjito during the year 2011
was 698 people and during the year 2012 was 875, while
the number of patients with RD in 2011 was 11 and in
2012 was 25 people. Of the total 36 data obtained,
there are only 20 data that have complete data on age,
sex, BMI, blood pressure, long-suffering, random blood
glucose, lipid profile (total cholesterol,
triglycerides, HDL, and LDL), and hemoglobin levels.
Conclusion: The prevalence of RD in patients with type
2 diabetes hospitalizations in Dr. Sardjito Jogjakarta
in 2011 by 1.58% and in 2012 amounted to 2.86%.
