| Summary: | Background: Allergic rhinitis has a high prevalence, impact on quality of life, impact on school or work activities and productivity, economic burden, and comorbidities. Many patients with allergic rhinitis have concomitant asthma. Children with allergic rhinitis often have sinusitis, conjunctivitis, otitis media, serous otitis, enlarged tonsils and adenoids, and eczema.
Objective: To determine whether there is a relationship between house dust mite sensitization with comorbid allergic rhinitis in children.
Method: This study was conducted using an observational analytic methods as well as cross-sectional design. The subjects involved in the study were children aged 6-13 years in Bangirejo primary school, Sinduadi Timur Primary School, Pogung Kidul Primary School, and Tajem Primary School of Yogyakarta as many as 194 children. The data was collected by questionnaire, confirmation anamnesis and skin prick test with house dust mite allergens. Independent variables are the results of positive and negative skin prick test, while the dependent variable is comorbid allergic rhinitis. Data were analyzed by the X2 (Chi-square) test to test the hypothesis with α = 0.05. Result: From all of the patients examined its comorbid, 47.59% had comorbid asthma
