description The adsorption study of Cu(II) on the ionic-imprinted-bentonite prepared via grafting method with 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (3-APTMS) has been conducted. The research was initialized by characterizing the bentonite, including the identification of functional group, structure and and surface analysis. The adsorption properties were then studied, including the determination of optimum condition, capacity, energy, kinetic and selectivity. Synthesis of ionic-imprinted-bentonite was conducted by using grafting method on the layer with the Cu(II). The results showed that the adsorption was optimum at pH of 4 and followed Langmuir isotherm with the capacity of 37.75 and 13.22 mg g-1 for ionic-imprinted- and acid-activated-bentonites, respectively. The adsorption energies were 34.20 and 31.13 kJ mol-1 for ionic-imprinted- and acidactivated- bentonites, respectively. The adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo 2nd order and reached the equilibrium at120 min. The adsorption rate constants were 6,24x10-3 and 40,47x10-3g mg-1min-1 for ionic-imprinted- and acid-activatedbentonites, respectively. The study of selectivity showed that the ionic-imprintedbentonite was more selective to Cu(II) than to Mg(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) comparing to the acid-activated-bentonite.
