Summary:Currently Islamic architectural design and ideas emerged from a duplication and impersonation of the forms, elements and ornamentation of the building are considered to be the product of Muslim society. This approach is often limited by the use of symbols or physical form is usually considered to represent Islam and from the Middle East. It can be seen from the development of mosque construction and rehabilitation of traditional mosques tend to forget the local aspects also basic values & principles of Islam. Palembang traditional mosque is one of the local identity of the people of Palembang as well as a devoted and have a special law as Muslim religious buildings (madaniyah khas). The research goal is to be able to see the characteristics of traditional mosques in the city of Palembang be seen from the aspect of function, space, technique and form, as well as knowing the factors that affect the formation of the characteristics of traditional mosques in the city of Palembang be seen from the influence of the basic values and principles of Islam as well as the effect of culture. This research uses the case study method, by taking the theory Ching (2000) in forming the characteristic aspects of the architecture is used as a grand theory. Research revealed a typical characteristics of a traditional mosque in Palembang which affected the basic values and principles of Islam as well as locally based cultural values. It is formed from a combination of the influence of the Ottoman Empire and the Kerajaan Demak which be adopted by the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate in establishing a mosque in the city of Palembang.
