Summary:This research examined the film that adapted from video game in relating with the image of American woman. By observing the history of both media (video game and film), those products of American popular culture were assumed able to express the social and cultural phenomenon of America � especially in this digital era � such as presenting the image of American women in American film that adapted from video game. As widely known, video game media has always been related to both worlds: digital and male world. In one hand, the image of woman character in video game however presented to fit male audience�s expectation. In other hand, as it has transformed into film, the filmmaker also trying to bring the woman into the broader audience�s expectation, especially in females. This phenomenon brings to the idea of making further analysis in this thesis. Through the adaptation analysis with the primary data Tomb Raider films (2001 & 2003), the research summarized that the image of American woman in American literature especially in the films and some short stories which were adapted from video game are classified into an ambivalent two images. First, female is depicted as sexual object or mostly presented in the demand of male audience�s desire. Second, female is depicted as the agent of new American woman, following the demand of female audience�s expectation.
