Summary:This research compared two products of American popular culture with same title in different media. As products of American popular culture, both of the Avengers comic book series and film are regarded as a media which is able to express the social and cultural phenomenon of America in the time of their productions. In film adaptation, there must be differences and similarities can be found compared to its original source. And the differences of characters depicted in the Avengers comic book and film make the researcher interested to do further discussion in this thesis. And through adaptation analysis and by comparing two primary data the Avengers comic series (1962-63) and the Avengers movie (2013), this research shows that the differences and similarities in both primary data happen because of consumers� demands and also social and cultural phenomena in the time of their productions. In the comic series, the woman character is depicted as weak person and subordinate to her team-mates
