Study of durian seeds starch-based adhesive ability on particle board has not been done., The purpose of this study is to determine the ability of durian seed starch-based adhesive in the manufacture of particle board and analyze the economic potential of the particle boards made from biomass waste of bamboo betung and durian peel. This research used a completely randomized design with two factors, they are the amount of starch adhesive durian seeds (10%, 20% and 30% based on dryweight of the particles) and raw materials (waste durian fruit peel and bamboo betung). The particleboards were hot-pressed at pressing temperature of 1800C for 10 minutes. Particle boards were then tested for its included physical properties (density, moisture content, water absorption and thickness swelling) and mechanical properties (internal bonding, modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity). The results showed that starch-based adhesive made from durian seeds could be used as an adhesive in particle board. Interaction of raw material and amount of starch adhesive durian seeds very significantly affected on modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity. Types of raw materials significantly affected of the moisture content, water absorption, internal bonding, modulus of elasticity and modulus of rupture. Starch adhesive durian seeds gave significant effect on water absorption, thickness swelling, internal bonding and modulus of elasticity. Best properties of particle board were achieved at 30% amount of adhesive and bamboo particle as raw materials. Those boards had 0,84 g/cm3 density, 9,25% moisture content, 47,55% water absorption, 16,96 % thickness swelling, 0,77 kg/cm2 internal bonding, 25629.29 kg/cm2 modulus of elasticity and 120.54 kg/cm2 modulus of rupture. Value of the investment will be issued for particle board production enterprises of bamboo betung will return within a period of 1 year 4 months.
