Summary: | Implementation of rainwater harvesting technology is important to be an
alternative extensive application of fresh water resources. It avoiding water
shortage problem in household. This technology can reduce flood that affected
from rain water overflows. In massive implementation of this technology is not
only usefull to warding off the flood, but also to cutting corner the PDAM's water
consumtion. The prototype of this technology has been implemented in Gampong
Lancang Garam district, in Lhokseumawe City. It contain 85.78 m2 of roof sample
area from 0.15 km2 of total area. The prototype has compiled from catching roof,
rain-gutter containers, leaf filters, dust-blocker filters, storage tanks, distribution
pipelines, and fresh water filters that containing quartz sand, charcoal, small
pebbles, gravel medium and sponges. The implementation result indicated that the
prototype has recieve about 2,574 m3 of rain water proper in top-level rainfall
storm on December 1st 2012. This is equivalent to 9,373 m3 per month in
December 2012 and saving Rp.73,493,- on fresh water cost in the same time. In
other word, it can receive approximatly 4,432 m2 of fresh water supply per month,
or equivalent to 53,184 m2 of fresh water supply per year. This floodwater
conservation can be effective to reduce puddle from rain water if implemented on
every house with total 47,040 m2 of rain water catching area in Gampang
Lancang Garam district. According to the standard of The Ministry of Health, the
rain water sample from this implementation has been classified to Grade B of The
Fresh Water Criteria.
