examine the factor that affect consumer preference, examine the characteristic of
organic rice which affect the price and examine the structural difference of the
hedonic price function, examine the factor that affect the demand and examine the
structural difference of demand function.
This research was conducted on consumers in Sragen, Surakarta and Semarang.
The sample of this study was taken from the customers of the organic rice retailer,
they were 61 customers of Sragen, 60 customers of Surakarta and 69 customers of
Semarang. A binomial logit regression model was used to examine the factors that
affected consumer preferences, while a multiple linear regression model was used
to examine the characteristics that affected the organic rice and to examine the
factors that affected the demand. The structural difference of the function was
approximated by a Chow model followed an extended regression analysis.
The analysis shows that the factors such as perception of organic farming, organic
rice purity and family income increase consumer preference to organic rice. The
consumers of Surakarta and Semarang have a higher preference than the consumer
of Sragen. Characteristics of organic rice that affect to the price are the head grain,
chalky grain, texture, and sweetness, while aroma effects on prices just in
Surakarta. It is found a structural difference of the hedonic price function among
Surakarta and Sragen due to the variable of head grain, chalky grain, texture, and
sweetness, while among Semarang and Sragen due to the variable of head grain
and sweetness. Price of organic rice in Surakarta and Semarang is higher than
Sragen. The demand for organic rice is affected by variables such as the price of
organic rice, the familial reference, the collegial reference, the neighborhood
reference and consumer preference. Demand for organic rice in Surakarta is also
affected by the degree of education of housewife. It is found a structural difference
of organic rice demand function among Surakarta and Sragen due to the variable of
the collegial reference, the neighborhood reference, while among Semarang and
Sragen due to the variable of the organic rice price, the familial reference, the
collegial reference, the neighborhood reference and consumer preference. |
