Description
Summary:Avian influenza (AI) disease occured the first time in 2006 in Bengkalis Distrisct. The highest incidence occured between 2006-2011 period. This study aims were to determine the prevalence and identify a biosecurity variables associated AI and a patterns of disease spread in Bengkalis island. A cross-sectional study was conducted in this study. The multistage sampling method was used based on sample size formula for the level of disease. The type of sample is a cloacal swabs from 235 backyard poultry flocks. The presence of AI obtained from cloacal swabs by pooled sample every 5 birds. Identification of AIV subtype H5 examined by the real-time RT-PCR methods in Biotechnology Laboratories, Animal Disease of Investigation Centre (DIC) Bandar Lampung. The results of questionnaires and laboratory test were processed by descrivtive, bivariate, multivariate analyzed within statistics for the windows version 7 software. The result showed that AI disease was found in backyard poultry flocks in Bengkalis island. The prevalence of AI disease in backyard poultry flocks in Bengkalis Island was 1.27%. The biosecurity variables that affect AI disease based on bivariate analysis were Rimbasekampung village (OR=2.78
