description | Indonesia is considered to be deprived of the establishment of
'island nation' and the image of the glory of the Nusantara as a
maritime area in the past. This is especially noticeable by maritime
industry dysfunctions as the foundation of maritime power. Two
possible reasons of the decline are inconsistent policies or indeed
maritime policy is misses the point from the beginning.
Issues raised in this study is how the business or the state's
role in coordinating maritime functions to improve the colonial and
post colonial welfare.
This research using primary sources in the form of records
stored in the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia as a
source of decisions made by the government. Other primary
sources, namely newspapers, magazines and contemporaneous
oral sources can be used to find out the reality on the ground.
Search sources that assisted with the secondary source books and
journals relevant to the study of maritime policy.
Conclusions of this study were (1) dysfunctions post-colonial
shipbuilding industry is the states failure to regulate shipping,
this is quite a contrast with, (2) the succes of the postindependence
maritime experts in attempt to formulate and
legalize Djuanda Declaration concept. Two facts above shows that
(3) the decline of maritime spirit is not entirely derived from the
colonial condition, but rather due to the failure of Indonesia to
develop maritime geostrategic concept. |
