Methods :
This is a prospective, consecutive, and quasi experimental design. All senile cataract patients (75
patients) from February 2013 until July 2013 in �Dr. Yap� Eye Hospital was held a
phacoemulsification procedure. Some examinations such as pinch test, lateral distraction test,
snap back test, and then Schirmer test were performed. Each of them was performed an eyelid
fissure measurement before and at the operation room. Each subject went a parabulbar
injection and Hoonan balloon tamponade as high as 30 mmHg, and the duration of
phacoemulsification procedure were recorded. The phacoemulsification procedure used solidblade
eyelid speculum and wire speculum. In one week and four week after that procedure, a remeasurement
of pinch test, lateral distraction test, snap back test, Schirmer test and eyelid
pissure were recorded again. All measurement data was processed using independent sample ttest.
Results :
There were no mean different according to basic characteristic between two groups except in the
first examination of pinch test (p=0,001). Mean differentiation in eyelid speculum with a key
according to pinch test was7,76+1,36 (p=0,012) and lateral distraction test was2,08+0,71
(p=0,017) whereas in group eyelid speculum without key according to pinch test was 6,35+0,89
(p=0,000), but there was no different mean according to lateral distraction test (p=0,183)
respectively.
Conclusion:
Whether solid-blade or wire speculum in both groups revealed an extent of inferior eyelid laxity
based on pinch test before and four weeks after surgery. Eyelid speculum with key has 1.02
times causing extention of laxity |
