Summary:Background: Hypertension is a health concern for most people in the world, including Indonesia. Hypertension is one of major risk factors which cause of coronary heart disease, stroke, heart failure, and end-stage renal disease. The Information Center Data of Provincial Health Department in Sleman Yogyakarta 2010 showed that hypertension, age over 45 years was in the first rank , and for all age groups with hypertension was in the second rank. This is not apart from the low level of knowledge, attitudes and behavior and adherence to treatment of patients with hypertension. Therefore, a study is needed to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior and patient adherence to treatment interventions Small Group Discussion (DKK). Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the improvement of patients adherence to hypertensive treatment patients in health centers of Sleman Yogyakarta by measuring medication adherence in hypertensive patients before and after a given intervention small group discussion and feedback with indicator scores increased knowledge, attitudes and behavior as well as scores of hypertensive medication adherence so as to increase the efficacy of treatment with hypertension in the health center Sleman Yogyakarta. Methods: The research used was quasi-experimental with non-equivalent control group design with pre test and post test. The study population was twelve health centers in the regency Sleman Yogyakarta with 6 health centers as a treatment and 6 health centers as a control. Data obtained from instrument of research knowledge, attitude, behavior and adherence presented and analysed by analytic descriptively. T-test was used to determine the significance of the differences in outcomes improvement of knowledge, attitudes and behavior and the adherence of respondents before and after the intervention. Result : The results showed that there was significant improvement (p <0.05) on knowledge, attitude, behavior and adherence the intervention. The score of knowledge increased from 13 to 16 (of a maximum score), positive attitude from 39 to 46 (of a maximum score), the behavior of 37 to 48 (of a maximum score) and the adherence of 3.5 to 5. The control group did not change significantly. Conclusion: DKK and feedback methods is effective to improve knowledge, attitudes, behaviors and patient adherence to treatment of hypertension.
