Summary: | The ability of the land to support human activity is strongly influenced by
the behavior of human beings themselves. The study of carrying capacity of
agricultural land in this research conducted in the Kejajar Regency of Wonosobo
District as part of upstream area of Serayu Watershed with the majority
population works in agriculture. Measurement of the carrying capacity of
agricultural land based on the population pressure conditions in the study area.
The purpose of this research are (1) to identify agricultural activities by farmers
in the upstream area of Serayu Watershed, (2) to analyze the minimum land area
for worthy life of a farmer in the upstream area of Serayu Watershed, and (3) to
analyze the carrying capacity of agricultural land in the upstream area of Serayu
Watershed.
The determination of the research area should be eased by making
agricultural cluster. Three villages are taken as samples of i) clusters of staple
food crops (Village Serang), ii) cluster of vegetable crops (Village Surengede)
and iii) clusters of plantation crops (Village Buntu). The data used in the research
is primary data that is collected by interviews with 99 respondents using a
questionnaire. Data analysis using the method of quantitative calculation and
also qualitative description that displayed in the form of tables and maps.
The results showed that agricultural activities that carried out in the
upstream area of Serayu Watershed have the potatoes crops as superior plant
commodity. Cropping systems in a year is a mixed crop system (Village Buntu and
Village Serang) and monoculture (Village Surengede). The frequency of the
harvest are 2 to 3 times in a year. The largest of least agricultural land area
required for worthy life is the Village Buntu with 1.24 hectares / person, then
Village Serang is 0.77 hectares / person and Village Surengede is 0.62 hectares /
person. Condition of the carrying capacity of agricultural land in the District
Kejajar overall is very low, it indicated by the value of the carrying capacity is
0,36, less than 1. The most influential factor in the condition of the carrying
capacity of agricultural land in this area is the number of farmers that exceed the
capacity of the agricultural land area.
