| description | This research analyze the usage of toiuka discourse marker under pragmatic
study based on speech act theory. Describing the variety of toiuka and its functions in
daily usage context and describing speech act category of toiuka usage are the aims of
this study.
The data for this study are utterances that containing toiuka and its variants
taken from Hotaru no Hikari Comics (volume 1-6). Those utterances were collected
and classified to explain the variety of toiuka and its usage functions based on
utterance situation and determine speech act category aspect based on speech act
theory. Furthermore, illocutionary act category were determined based on constitutive
rule of Searle.
The result of data analysis shows that toiuka has many variations, such as,
teiuka, teyuuka, tteiuka, tsuuka, chuuka, and cchuuka. The data show that teyuuka is
used mostly by men and women between age of 23 � 40, especially to those who are
siblings, colleague, senior � junior, close friends, lovers, and superior � inferior.
Moreover, the functions of toiuka discourse marker in daily usage context also varies,
