Description
Summary:another Cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmannii) has been shown to have anticancer activity in several types of cancer cell cultures. There should be an research to examine the potential of cinnamon as an agent co-chemotherapy . This study aims to examine the cytotoxic activity of volatile oil of cinnamon or combination chemotherapy with doxorubicin, and the ability of the combination to stimulate apoptosis in T47D breast cancer cells. Volatile oil of cinnamon obtained by distillation water and water vapor. Single treatment and combination cytotoxicity assay performed with MTT assay. Apoptosis test has been done by double staining. Parameter single cytotoxic test is IC50 while the combination treatment is cell viability and synergy of the combination (CI). The results of this study indicate that DKM has cytotoxic effect on T47D cells with IC50 values of 75 µg/ml. From the test results obtained by the combination of the most synergistic combination is a combination of doxorubicin 37,5 - volatile oil of Cinnamon 37,5 μg/ml - 1,25 μM with CI values of 0,37. The combination treatment also showed a T47D cell growth inhibitory effect compared with single treatment of each compound and is able to inhibit cell growth to 39 % of the population. Apoptosis assay of combination treatment shows the number of dead cells (more cells has the orange fluorescens) compared to a single treatment of doxorubicin and volatile oil of Cinnamon. The results of this study indicate that the volatile oil of Cinnamon potential to be developed as a co-chemoteraphy agent of breast cancer. However, further research is needed to determine the molecular mechanism.
