Summary: | Background: Compliance of staff in managing solid medical waste in hospitals is
compliance in implementing standard operational procedure, having knowledge
and risk awareness in managing solid medical waste according to regulation
specified by the hospital. At BrigJend. H. Hassan Basry Hospital Kandangan, the
management of solid medical waste has not been well implemented. This is
indicated from the existing condition whereby medical waste and domestic waste
are mixed up. This shows that staff was unaware of their behavior. Low
compliance of staff to standard operating procedure has to be improved in order
not to bring long term and disadvantageous risk to the community. Thus, it is
necessary to understand management aspects that may affect to the compliance of
staff in managing solid medical waste.
Objective: To identify aspects of solid medical waste management that could
affect compliance of staff in managing solid medical waste.
Method: The study was observational. It used survey method and cross sectional
design. Research instrument was questionnaire that was distributed to 85 health
staffs working at medical waste producing unit. Quantitative data were analyzed
using univariate, bivariate and multivariate method with logistic regression
method at significance (α) = 0.05.
Result: The result of bivariate analysis showed there were five variables
associated with compliance, ie. Leadership, organization, supervision, motivation,
and working environment. The result of multivariate analysis showed there were
two most significant variables, ie. leadership (p = 0.001
