Summary: | Media role which is part of civil society is surely important in the frame of an
environmental plan. Around the years, media role in informing forestry and
conservation news is not known yet. The thing being a question is there the
increasing of frequency of forest conservation and other forest news included both
comparisons since 2008 until 2012 in mass media especially paper-printed media.
The main aim of this research is to know the trend of forest conservation news and
other forest news since 2008 until 2012.
The research is done with accounting on appearing frequency of forestry news
in two newspapers. The newspapers researched are Kompas and Kedaulatan Rakyat.
Kompas is a national newspaper while Kedaulatan Rakyat is Yogyakarta local
newspaper. News content is grouped based on the activity in it and then it will be also
classified based on negative and positive content. The data will be provided in graph
in order to know the trend of the news since 2008 until 2012. The data analysis is
done with graph description then.
The research shows, both Kompas and Kedaulatan Rakyat, forest
conservation news increases from 2008 to 2012 and dominates forestry news
compared to the others. The frequency of conservation news in Kompas grows 122
publications for these five years. In the meantime, the frequency of forest
conservation news in Kedaulatan Rakyat increases 11 publications. Generally, forest
publication in Kompas is higher than in Kedaulatan Rakyat because Kompas has a
specific column for environmental and forest issues and Kedaulatan Rakyat does not
have this one. The negative publication about forestry in Kompas is higher than the
positive publication. In contrast, the positive publication outweighs the negative one
in Kedaulatan Rakyat.
