Summary: | Lawu Montane Forests is one of tropical forests in Indonesia. It is located
administratively in Central Java and East Java Province. However, its existence
has been degraded rapidly by 142.56 ha per year of the rate of damage in the
period of 2000-2005. The damage affects local the loss of tree species in the Lawu
Montane Forests. As a matter of fact, study of structure and composition of
vegetation is needed in the Lawu Montane forests as a baseline for Montane
forests rehabilitation based on local tree species. The aim of the study is to
determine the structure and composition of vegetation in the pole and stand of tree
growth level in the Lawu Montane forests at the different height level.
The study was conducted in three height zones: (1) Zone I = 1600-1700 m
above sea level, (2) Zone II = 1700-1800 m above sea level, and (3) Zone III =
1800-1900 m above sea level. Each zone will be established three plots with plot
type is nested sampling sized 10 m x 10 m for the poles tree growth level and 20
m x 20 m for the trees growth level. Observed variables in this study were
Importance Value Index (IVI), Diversity Index, Dispersion Index, and tree growth
for one year.
The result showed that the structure of vegetation in the pole and stand tree
growth level in the Zone I consists of B and C Stratum
