The roman tells about the struggle of three main characters that lived in different
places and times. Social interaction between individuals and groups creates
conflicting interest that leads to the exercise of power and power negotiation in
order to reach the objective of each individual or group against the opposition of
the adversaries. The writer used the concept of power and resistance by Michel
Foucault. This research analyzed the resistance that was used to negotiate power
as well as the strategy to support such resistance. The resistance was classified
into three categories, they are: direct action, oppositional behavior, and
contradictory resistance. In the elaboration of the strategy of resistance, there are
four categories of strategies based on the capital that was being used: economy
and logistic, knowledge, status, and belief. Based on the research, it can be
concluded that power can be negotiated through resistance and strategies is
needed to attain the objective of the resistance. |
