Summary: | Hydroxyapatite (HAP) is an apatite compound which has good
biocompatibility and widely applied in many medical applications especially for
implants. Hydroxyapatite is going to be synthesized in reverse micelle system,
using two types of surfactants that are cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)
and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as template for its crystal growth. The aim of
this research is to study the effect of water/surfactant mole ratio
W=H2O/surfactant), on the morphological and crystallographic characteristics
and on chemical composition of HAP.
Hydroxyapatite was synthesized using reverse micelle system at room
temperature with pH 10. The system contains n-hexane as solvent, CTAB or SDS
surfactant, n-butanol as co-surfactant, CaCl2 and (NH4)2HPO4 solution as aqueous
phases with Ca/P mole ratio 5:3. The reaction system was made with
water/surfactant ratio on CTAB surfactant, W=5
