description Fucoidan and alginate are bioactive subtances from brown algae. The objective of this research was to determine the effect of dietary fucoidan and alginate extracted from Sargassum sp. on innate immunity of catfish (Clarias sp.). Experiment design in this research was Completely Randomized Design (CRD) composed by 8 treatments in triplicates. Catfish were fed with control diet (P1), fucoidan 2 g/kg diet (P2), fucoidan 4 g/kg diet (P3), fucoidan 6 g/kg diet (P4), alginate 2 g/kg diet (P5), alginate 4 g/kg diet (P6), alginate 6 g/kg diet (P7) and alginate 8 g/kg diet (P8). Catfish were fed twice a day with 5% of total biomass. The parameters evaluated were Nitroblue Tetrazolium test (NBT), Phagocytic Activity (PA), Phagocytic Index (PI), leukocyte differentiation, haematocryt and leukocryt. Evaluation of the innate immunity parameters were done before feeding treatment and 5th, 10th, 15th after the treatment. Results showed that diet containing 4 and 6 g/kg fucoidan significantly increased (P<0,05) monocyte percentage at 5th day. A diet containing 4 g/kg alginate significantly increased (P<0,05) NBT value and phagocytic activity at 5th day, whereas a diet containing 6 g/kg alginate significantly increased (P<0,05) NBT value and monocyte percentage at 5th day. A feed diet containing 4 g/kg alginate from Sargassum sp. gave the most effective effect to increase innate immunity of catfish.
