Summary:Background : Family being considered an important part for TB patients , this aspect needs to be addressed and improved through empowerment in a more optimal family to support better treatment process. There is a positive and significant effect between family social support on quality of life in patients with TB . One way to increase family knowledge can be done through the family group therapy. Family group therapy is a small group of patients and family members they are together help each other to achieve certain goals. Number of members of a group consisting of 5 to 12 people with a facilitator or group leader. Objective: This study aims to describe the family group therapy on quality of life in patients with pulmonary TB Pulmonary Respira Special Hospital Yogyakarta. Methods : This study is a descriptive study with pre - test and posttest one group design assisted qualitative approach. The research was conducted at Rumah Sakit Khusus Paru Respira UPKPM Yogyakarta. The instruments used Short Form - 36 (SF - 36). Data analysis using descriptive quantitative and qualitative. Sampling technique used was purposive sampling with a sample size of 8 people. Results : Quality of life of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis before and after the majority of the family group therapy is above - average. The results showed that the family group therapy can improve the quality of life of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis due to an increase family knowledge about the treatment of TB patients at home . Conclusion : family group therapy can improve the quality of life of patients with pulmonary TB in Special Hospital Lung Respira UPKPM Yogyakarta.
