Summary: | The growth of the elderly population in Indonesia was high category.
Nowadays there would be more elderly who still had tooth, so need the
maintenance of oral hygiene so that the oral health of elderly could be achieved
optimally. The purpose of this study was to know the needs of dental hygiene
intervention in relation to oral hygiene of elderly at Posyandu Lansia Sanggrahan
Village Tlogoadi Mlati Sleman Yogyakarta.
This study was a descriptive observational study with a cross sectional
design. The subjects of this study were 41 elderly both men and women who
were participants of the Posyandu Lansia Sanggrahan Village Tlogoadi Mlati
Sleman Yogyakarta, used consecutive sampling technique. The oral hygiene
assessment used Brief Oral Health Status Examination (BOHSE) methods by
Kayser-Jones. Score of 0 determine as good, score of 1 need the dental hygiene
intervention and score of 2 need refer to dentist. The results were analyzed
descriptively and presented through the tables and percentage diagram.
The results of this study showed 21,9% of subjects need the dental hygiene
intervention and 53,7% of subjects need refer to dentist. The conclusion of this
study was most of the elderly in Sanggrahan Village Tlogoadi need the dental
hygiene interventions and refer to dentist. The dental hygiene interventions can be
given education, motivation and scaling.
