Summary: | Plantation forest of Casuarina equsetifolia in Gua Cemara Beach was
established with goal of reducing the wind velocity to the mainland. Wind profile in
forest affected by three factors, namely the type of plants, density and stand structure.
The aims of this study are (1) to measure the density, height and diameter of
Casuarina equisetifolia plants. (2) to identify the wind velocity before and after
passing through the plants. (3) to analyze the effects of density, height and diameter
of Casuarina equisetifolia against wind velocity.
The data taken with systematic sampling, observations plots made in 20 m
wide and 60 m long size according to the Casuarina equisetifolia plantation forest to
get a complete profile diagram of the plantation forest. Based on the length of
Casuarina equisetifolia plantation forest, a total of 30 plots were determined with the
distance between plot is 20 m, in the observation plots, measured plant height,
diameter breast height (dbh), crown length and crown closure. Wind velocity data
were analyzed by using T-Test and the effect of plant characteristics on wind velocity
were analyzed by using multiple linear regression using SPSS software.
The results of this study showed that plantation forest of Casuarina equsetifolia
in Gua Cemara Beach has an average density of 177.5 trees per ha, the average
diameter of the plant is 15.16 cm and the average plant height is 7.61 m. The average
percentage of wind velocity reduction through the Casuarina equisetifolia plant is
79.25%. Wind velocity reduction is affected by characteristics of Casuarina
equisetifolia such as density, height and diameter, eventhough the factor that
significantly affected the wind velocity reduction was the plant diameter (r= 0.991).
