Summary: | The ethanolic extract of Homalanthus populneus contains a unique phorbolester
called prostratin. Prostratin has an anti-viral activity and cytoprotective effect
on monocyte, macrophage, and T cells infected by HIV-1. This study aims to
determine the activity of ethanolic extract of Homalanthus populneus (Geisel.) Paxs
stems on human peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) and mice macrophages.
The cytotoxicity effect of ethanolic extract of H. populneus was assessed using the MTT
assay. There were a control group, solvent control (DMSO 0.125 % and 0.25 %),
positive control (Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) 1, 10, 50 mg/mL for macrophages), and
an extract treatment group (7.8125
