Summary: | The phenomena of increasing temperature in many cities in Indonesia is mainly caused by land cover change, high building density and motor vehicle emissions. The objectives of this research are: 1. to study the heat island characteristic, 2. to study the distribution of heat island.
Method of temperature measurement survey conducted by purposive sampling as many as 30 samples. Sample was divided into 2 sections, each 15 sample number based on built-up area and vegetation cover. Air temperature measurements at intervals morning at 06:00 to 7:00 pm, during the day at 10:00 to 11:00 pm, the afternoon from 14:00 to 15:00 pm and the evening at 19:00 to 20:00 pm. Land cover and built-up area were generated from aerial photo interpretation. The analysis of isotherm wass conducted by classified the result of field measurement, overlayed with land cover map. The results were analyzed descriptively using tables and maps.
The results of this research shows that there are difference in temperature between the built-up area and vegetation cover at the University of Gadjah Mada. Increasing temperature occurs at the intersection of Terban, Faculty of Agriculture, Sekip Housing Area, Faculty of Medicine, Kesehatan street at east side of Sardjito Hospital and the Faculty of Engineering. The highest temperature reached 36.30C at 10:00 to 11:00 pm at the intersection of Terban. In contrast to the low temperatures found in northern BPFE UGM vegetated area, east side of Faculty of Philosophy, north side of Faculty of Animal Husbandry, and Bulaksumur Housing Area. The lowest temperature reached 25.95C at 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 pm in the north side of Faculty of Animal Husbandry.
