description | Erythromycin is an important antibiotics especially for patients who are
sensitive and resistant to penicillin derivatives. This antibiotic has been produced
in laboratory and industrial scale that need high cost. The high price of the medium
causes the production cost goes higher too, and so as the price of the eritromisin.
One of the way out is to press on the production cost by changing the usual medium
to the cheaper medium. Medium production of erythromycin composed of complex
components. Concerning medium composition, the production of erthromycin is
highly regulated by type and concentration of the carbon source. In general, carbon
source is usually used in relatively higher concentration compared to other medium
component and thus has high share in the raw material cost (El-enshasy et al, 2008).
Molasses is used to change carbon source because it is cheaper, easier to find and
containing sucrose and invert sugar which is easily absorbed by the bacteria
(Fardiaz, 2005). The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of the
replacement of the carbon source in the media with molasses.
The research have 4 phase. First phase is regenerating culture
Saccharopolyspora erythraea BM/1 A13 which aims to refresh the culture. The
second phase was inoculated to increase the number of cell. The third phase of the
fermentation culture medium of standard and medium of replacement glucose with
molasses in range of concentration (1% |
