Summary: | One of the most important issues in power systems is the capacity of the distribution network. To overcome the problem, the implementation of unified power flow controller (UPFC) is proposed in this thesis. This research focus the design of UPFC control equipment. The single machine infinite bus system (SMIB) with power system stabilizer (PSS) controller and power oscillation damping (POD)model were used as the control model. PSS and POD parameters were optimized with genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO). Simulation results of this study indicate that the implementation of PSS and POD improves system stability. The evidence could be observed from less overshoot, the lack of oscillations, as well as the eigenvalue shifts furtherly left of the imaginary axis. It is evident that the running time of PSO is faster than GA.
