Summary: | Communities of practice (CoPs) is a good means to learn the knowledge
that can be useful in improving organizational performance. In the community of
practice, in addition to the re-use of knowledge for greater efficiency, are also able
to facilitate the creation and transfer of knowledge for greater innovation. In the
context of school organization, empirical research on the role of teachers in
communities of practice is still limited. Therefore it is necessary to do research on
the role of one community of practice that is Biologi Subject Teacher Forum
(MGMP) in the region of Gunungkidul on the process of knowledge creation and
transfer in high school.
This study aims to describe the Biologi Subject Teacher Forum (MGMP)
activity followed by high school teachers in Gunungkidul and their role in the
process of knowledge creation and transfer. This type of research is descriptive
study with qualitative data supported the quantitative data collection methods
using questionnaires and interviews. Respondents were drawn is high school
biology teacher who taught at the school in Gunungkidul. Data were analyzed
with descriptive statistical analysis methods.
Based on the results of research and analysis, the Biologi Subject Teacher
Forum in Gunungkidul have enough activity associated with the many and varied
processes of knowledge creation and transfer in school. Respondents note that the
assessment methods used by teachers in the community of practice in the process
of knowledge creation is a combination, socialization, internalization, and
externalization. To transfer knowledge through face to face and use of information
technology-based media. The role of the community of practice is quite large
value increases the efficiency of the use of knowledge, assist in the development
of ideas and innovation, and facilitate the creation of new teaching methods.
Learning process that followed the teacher in the community of practice has a
considerable influence on the practice of teaching that the teachers do in the
classroom. Based on this research, the community of biology high school teachers
in Gunungkidul proved instrumental in improving the process of knowledge
creation and transfer in school organizations.
