Summary: | Culinary business is one of the most attractive business in Yogyakarta. Based on
the data from Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the growth of culinary businesses
in Yogyakarta, which is consisted of the restaurant and café business, reach 25
percent in 2010. The growth of café business is supported by the changes of the
society lifestyle. From the preliminary research, the researcher found that 62
percent of 55 students go to cafés to socialize with friends. Another fact deducted
from preliminary research is 84 percent of the respondents� tend to go to a café
that provides a cozy place to study such as book café. It means that the students
expect more from cafés. Based on the findings, the researcher argue there still
opportunity available for business owners to provide an innovative café that offers
a comfortable place with supporting facilities for students� activities (e.g.
discussions, doing assignments, etc.) in Yogyakarta. So, this thesis intended to
fulfill this opportunity by providing an innovative business plan of Commodus
café that offers supportive atmosphere and facilities for the students� activities in
Yogyakarta.
Based on the survey, interview, and observation towards the prospective
customers and the manager of existing cafés, Commodus Café will be located in
Jalan Perumnas in Yogyakarta. That location is chosen because it is surrounded
by some universities whereas the student is the potential customer of Commodus
Café. As a new café that provides the combination of reading café and co-working
space, Commodus café proposes new values to the market, such as atmosphere
