description | This study aims to identify high Non Performing Loan (NPL) and
declining market share in PT. Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero), Tbk Office of
Medan when compared with the average of banks in the province of North
Sumatra and determine the strategy that should be done by policy makers to
reduce NPL and increase the market share of PT. Bank Rakyat Indonesia
(Persero), Tbk of Medan Area Office. The result of this study is expected to be a
reference branch leaders to define the policies of right and drifted loan expansion
strategy.
The identification process is represented by six (6) branches in PT. Bank
Rakyat Indonesia (Persero), Tbk of Medan Area Office, where the 3 (three)
branches represent the highest NPL value and 3 (three) branches represent the
largest market share of loans. Analysis is divided into two (2) parts: (i) analysis of
the potential area of the sample branch located by using the GDP data of North
Sumatra Province and GDP data of the city/district sample sample during the
2010-2011 period and (ii) analysis of portfolio, loan expansion trend and NPL
value of the sample branches by using the data of commercial retail loans
outstanding and NPL during the 2009-2011 period.
The tools of analysis (i) are: the LQ analysis to identify the economic
sector that be base of the branch sample, Shift-Share Analysis to determine the
contribution of each economic sector for the economic growth of North Sumatra
