Summary: | PVA fiber is usually used on biomedical field as a filter media. Metal
oxide material substitution on that fiber was mostly done to enhance their
function. The aim of this research was to load TiO2 nanoparticle into PVA fibers,
in order to get a flexible catalytic material used for several applications.
PVA fiber loaded with anatase TiO2 nanoparticle was successfully
fabricated using electrospinning method. The fibers made from a mixture of
anatase TiO2 nanoparticle powder in 10% aqueous PVA solution with TiO2/PVA
ratio up to 60%. The electrospinning process was done at 15 kV with 15 cm tip to
collector distance.
The size of fiber determined using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
was affected by changing of the ratio of TiO2/PVA, the larger the ratio the smaller
the fiber diameters. Heat treatment at 300 degree C into the fiber did not change the
anatase crystalline phase of TiO2 nanoparticles and didn�t significantly reduce
fiber diameter but it could reduce TiO2 particles size in the fibers. The diameter
of PVA-TiO2 fiber varied from 100-700 nm and TiO2 particle size inside that fiber
varied from 50- 180 nm. The as spun fiber absorbed UV ray on the UVB region.
The maximum contact angle of water droplet upon the fiber was around 90 degree
and it
decrease by time. So that the fibers are potential to become photocatalytic
materials and hydrophobic materials. |
