Summary:Kagi is a novel written by Tanizaki Jun'ichir� that published in 1956. This novel is written in diary form, it tells a story about the life of a husband and wife. The main characters of this novel are Ikuko and her husband who already married for more than twenty years and already had a daughter who called Toshiko by name. Their family is troubled and dysfunctional like no other family. They keep intriguing each other psychologically to get what they desire. Ikuko�s husband intriguing Ikuko to commit adultery with a young man called Kimura. Ikuko is aware about that but she doesn�t seem to mind. Ikuko and her husband behavior can be categorized as abnormal behavior. This research�s goal is to determine the types of Ikuko and her husband�s abnormal behaviors, the cause of their abnormal behaviors, and what the consequences of their abnormal behaviors, using the abnormal psychology and Freud�s psychoanalysis theory. Abnormal psychology is branch of psychology field that focused on abnormal and inappropriate behaviors. And Freud�s psychoanalysis divides human psychology into id, ego, and superego. Id contains only desires. Superego is always consider what right or wrong based on rules and regulations. And ego is the mediator that tries to accommodate either id or superego�s demands and adjust them with reality. In conclusions, the types of Ikuko and her husband�s abnormal behavior are temporary reactions toward stress, general paresis, sadomasochism, fetishism, histrionic personality disorder, and infidelity or adultery. The causes of those abnormal behaviors are stress, frustration, or family structure that pathogenic. And according to Freud�s psychoanalysis, those abnormal behaviors are the results of the unbalance function of superego towards id and ego. Ikuko and her husband�s abnormal behaviors bring some bad consequences for others. Toshiko is lacked of love from her parent and her behavior become disturbed. Ikuko�s husband had stroke and passed away. Ikuko is widowed and headed for her doom. In the end, Ikuko and her husband�s abnormal and ill-mannered behaviors led their life into destruction.
