description Background: Marketing sanitation is developed among others as one of supporting component on national strategy for community-based total sanition (CBTS/ STBM). Strategy in marketing sanitation, with the strengthening on the supply, is aims to increase public access on improved latrine and it succesed to market thousands of latrine, but the result only capable of being closed 2.48 % of the potential market 38.62 %, which was society that still did carelessly open defecate free or still accessed on sharing or unimproved latrine. Objectives: This research is intended to explore and descript the implementation of marketing sanitation and analyzed the relation of a factor of individuals, the environment, and socioeconomic with the adoption of the latrine improved for the people in the Lumajang regency. Methods: The study was done by using approach of mixed method which was cross sectional. A qualitative approach was done to explore the implementation of marketing sanitation, using the purposive technique with the main target of the holders of sampling program and marketing sanitation�s actors in Lumajang district. While quantitative research used proportional random sampling technique, it aimed to analyze factors correlation with the adoption of a improved latrine at the level of society. Results: There were some problems on the implementation of marketing sanitation both a demand component (related to the aspect of a subsidy) and enabling components (associated aspect promotion). At the level of society form seven variables in this research, there were two variables which had significant correlation with the adoption of a improved latrine. Three were significant namely on the aspect of open defecation habit (p=0.000, OR=17.723) and motivation (p=0.001,OR=4.663). Whereas on the other aspects, there was no significant correlation but had a positive tendency with the adoption of a latrine improved, each of the aspect of knowledge latrine healthy (p=0.085, OR=2.164), knowledge marketing of sanitation (p= 0.209, OR=1.731) the presence of bodies of water (p = 0.145, OR = 2.343), accessed to clean water (p = 0.735, OR = 1,352), education level (p = 0089, OR = 5.169), and income level (p = 0.071, OR = 2,281). Based on the results of multivariate analysis, aspects of defecation habits had the most dominant relation to the adoption of improved latrines (p = 0.000, OR = 15.019). Conclution: Based on the FGD and in depth interview, increased demand and supply of improved latrines in the community still become major problems on Lumajang Regency�s latrines adoption, partly because of the subsidies and promotional aspects. Meanwhile, bivariate analysis shows that the individual factors (habits and motivatio) had a significant relationship with the adoption of improved latrines. Based on the results of multivariate analysis, defecation habits had the most dominant relation with the adoption of improved latrines in Lumajang.
