description The DNA compression technique is only applicable to DNA files that are stored in a text file. It cannot be applied to other file types. The aim of this research is to find a technique so that the other file types can be compressed with GenCompress DNA compression technique. It is achieved by converting the binary into DNA format. Also, this research aim is to compare GenCompress and WinRAR�s compression result. The conversion process changes the binary into DNA strands according to the following rules. 00 is changed into �a�, 01 is changed into �c�, 10 is changed into �g�, 11 is changed into �t�, and vice versa. Some sample types that used in this research are avi, bmp, exe, wav, txt files, image pattern in bmp, and Brodatz dataset. The other file types can be compressed using GenCompress once the conversion process is done. GenCompress is able to produce better compression when the file contains some fixed-length repetition, while WinRAR is able to produce better compression when the file contains some variable-length repetition. The compression time does not only depend on the file size, but also depends on the file content. GenDecompress is not successfully decompressed the exe files and any pattern image that has a long repeat on the file content.
